Mission

Code Zone strives to create proficient coders through education and training while also providing a memorable experience that leads to strong problem-solving skills even outside of the coding world.

Vision

We believe that computer literacy is a foundational skill for the 21st century. Through access to unique learning opportunities and a curriculum that is tailored to meet your child(ren) where they are, we will encourage creativity by learning new ways to solve problems in a fun, collaborative, and enriching environment.

Philosophy

At Code Zone, we believe that people learn best from instructors who have a vested interest in or knowledge of a particular project or topic.  To this end, we work with "Project Owners".  Once a Project Owner develops a program or project, the Curriculum Manager builds a learning pathway around that project.  Project Owners then deliever instruction about their own work.  This allows learners the opportunity to ask deep, meaningful questions about the process behind project and program development.  Who better to learn from than the creator of the project!  The Project Owners and Curriculum Manager are able leverage the knowledge, experiences, and skills of the Zone Manager and Support Staff.

Values

At Code Zone, we value:
  • Representation in the Tech Industry: Through a collaborative and inclusive environment, we strive to encourage participation of women, girls, and other under-represented groups in tech fields.  We believe that it is important for learners to see themselves represented in the sociocultural progress made through CS and IT.
  • Well-Rounded Experiences: Whether or not people choose to pursue a career in any Computer Science (CS) or Information Technology (IT) fields, some experience with coding, programming, computational thinking practices, and procedural problem solving will certainly be beneficial.
  • Creative Collaboration: In education, too often we see "collaboration" turn into a strange division of labor to simply complete a check list of items.  We encourage learners to engage in a creative process of collaboration where all members of a team contribute to a dynamic work product.
  • Innovative Originality: Learners will have unique expereinces, drawing on the knowledge and skills of Project Owners.  As creators, Project Owners are best suited to support learning and are well equipped to address questions about the creative process.
